Description: Refugee students bring with them a unique set of experiences that influence their academic and social integration in the US, and educators and after school support providers have a distinct opportunity to play a large role in their success. This session will cover the strengths, challenges, and extra barriers that impact refugee students, including academic and social factors both in person and virtually.
Takeaways:
A greater understanding of the terms surrounding immigration, including the difference between refugee, asylee, immigrant, etc. status.
Gain awareness of how to best support refugee students and specific considerations when doing so.
