Speaking your Language: Appreciation in the Workplace

Date: Thursday, November 12, 2020

Time: 10am-12pm

Location: Via Zoom

Facilitator: Emily Herrin, Education Department Manager, Colorado Ballet

Description: This session will offer an opportunity to look inward and outward as we explore the 5 Languages of Appreciation in the workplace adapted from the 5 Love Languages. We know that more than 60% of people that leave their job do so because they do not feel appreciated. In the out of school time field, there is already a high risk for burnout, but we can work to decrease these feelings with intentional support. The Languages of Appreciation are vital for a thriving work environment and culture, and in this session we will not only discover our own language of appreciation, but investigate how we can speak the language of others we work with. In this new era of virtual engagement, we must be more creative to support one another and maintain motivation. How can we actively work to appreciate others and make sure others know how we feel appreciated?

 Takeaways:

  • Dive deeper into the Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace and discover how we can apply this information in-person, virtually, with coworkers and with students

  • Gain insight into your own language of appreciation, how to speak to others who don’t share this commonality, and how to communicate what works for you

  • Walk away with a concrete plan for how you will continue to practice these skills in your daily work environment.
