New Report: Putting Equity & Inclusion into Practice

The City and County of Denver’s Office of Children’s Affairs (OCA), which serves as the lead agency for the Denver Afterschool Alliance (DAA), recently released “Putting Equity and Inclusion into Practice,” a new report that provides insight into the funding process for out-of-school time (OST) and youth violence prevention (YVP) programs.

OCA makes an impact in the areas of OST and YVP by advocating for public support of youth programs, then funding youth-serving nonprofits in the City and County of Denver. Since 2015, OCA has invested at least $2M each year in OST and YVP programs through competitive funding opportunities, and, for the most recent round of funding, it refined its award selection process to make it more equitable and inclusive.

This report examines how three recent OST and YVP funding opportunities were rooted within a framework of equity that helps ensure that the organizations OCA funds reflect the communities they serve and are working in Denver neighborhoods with limited opportunity.

As the technical assistance provider to OCA’s OST awardees, the DAA is proud to be aligned with an agency that is a transparent, strategic and effective steward of public funds, and we look forward to continuing working alongside OCA to help strengthen its relationships with community organizations and deepen the impact of its investments.
