DAA Mentioned in Boardhawk Article
Our friends, Kim Sia and Diana Romero Campbell, co-authored a great article for the Boardhawk website, an independent site dedicated to community-based commentary and advocacy-focused coverage of public education in Colorado. The article spotlights the impact of comprehensive out-of-school time (OST) summer programming, like Scholar's Unlimited and Colorado "I Have A Dream" Foundation, on youth enrichment opportunities, safety and overall wellness.

National Summer Learning Week
To celebrate 2023 National Summer Learning Week (July 10th-14th), the Denver Afterschool Alliance will be engaging stakeholders by visiting local community-based organizations to witness how they are working towards closing the summer achievement gap. These community-based organizations are working together to keep kids safe and healthy every summer, and ensure they return to school in the fall, ready to succeed!

The National Summer Learning Association (NSLA)  has created a tool kit for programs with resources to assist in shaping and strengthening their summer programs. Check it out HERE.

Have Your Voice Heard!
The Denver Afterschool Alliance (DAA) has been partnering with Vanderbilt University, Research for Action and the Wallace Foundation on a study for the last year and a half on understanding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Out-of-School Time (OST) ecosystem. Data from this study will help inform how to support recovery as communities start rebuilding. A HUGE "THANK YOU" to all of the organizations that have already completed the survey! We still have so many more of your voices that need to be heard! Help us tell and share the magnificent impact of OST programming for youth and families in this great city!
All organizations that have worked with the DAA since 2018 are eligible to participate.  Simply use the link HERE, or scan the QR code below to take the survey TODAY!

As a small token of our appreciation, we will send you a Starbucks gift card upon survey completion.

Please reach out to Maxine Quintana, Director of OST Initiatives and DAA Lead (Maxine.quintana@denvergov.org) or Wendy McClanahan (wmcclanahan@maieval.com) with any questions.

Family Support Services on the Youth Program Locator!

We are excited to provide families with an easy way to search for support services on the Youth Program Locator!  Support services include mental health support, veteran's support, rental assistance, substance misuse support, clothing, food banks, and much more. This is a new search category on the Youth Program Locator, but we need more support services added!
For organizations that offer such services, please add these selections to your DAAconnect profile, so that they are listed on the Youth Program Locator. In DAAconnect, visit the Organization Profile tab, add or select an existing Focus Area and view the additional subservice categories under Health, Wellness & Family Supports service category. If you know of an organization that provides these services, but is not listed on the Youth Program Locator, please let us know so we can reach out.

Juneteenth: Freedom Day & Community PRIDE
Freedom Day
On June 19, 1865, two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, the last of the enslaved people in the U.S. were finally freed. By combining the words "June" and "nineteenth," Juneteenth became an annual day of celebration and remembrance for this moment of freedom.
Juneteenth is a day to learn about and honor Black stories, culture and contributions. By celebrating Juneteenth, we can remember the past and work towards a better future where everyone is treated with dignity and equality.
This past weekend, the Denver community celebrated Juneteenth through music, art, presentations, STEM activities, community gatherings, and more! We encourage you to continue celebrating and honoring the rich contribution of our local Black community.
 LGBTQ+ Pride
June is Pride month and the Denver Public Library is providing space at all their ideaLAB locations for people to decorate a square for a community pride flag! The squares will be sewn together and displayed at an unveiling party on July 29 at 1 p.m. at the Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales Branch Library. Contribute with your teams and youth today! See details HERE
